The opportunity

Join our Graduate Development Programme and be part of Equity Transactions – a team that sits within our Entrepreneurship and Investment directorate. It’s a high-performance environment that delivers Scottish Enterprise’s innovative co-investment equity funds. This exciting opportunity will put you at the heart of investment in some of Scotland’s most ambitious, innovative and high growth potential companies: those that deliver economic benefits for Scotland, and commercial returns for Scottish Enterprise.

The role

You’ll support an experienced team of specialists, helping them transact investments in a variety of early-stage, high-growth companies. With around 100 investments a year, it’s a high-volume setting where you’ll need to help the team deliver investments efficiently and successfully. As part of this role, you’ll be exposed to both the legal and financial aspects of our investment activity, as well as enjoying wide-ranging engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking the lead on tasks that support our investment specialists’ work – everything from drafting internal approval papers and gathering information to support investment decisions, to carrying out investor and company checks
  • Supporting the team with early-stage stakeholder engagement (such as dealing with investors, companies or advisers) and attending external events and conferences
  • Making sure key information and transactional documents are recorded on our internal systems
  • Dealing with ad-hoc project requests from the Equity Transaction and wider Entrepreneurship and Investment directorate without supervision

Who we're looking for

We won’t expect you to arrive equipped with all the skills and knowledge necessary for success in this role. What we’re more interested in at this stage are skills, experience, traits and strengths such as:

  • Qualifications or skills and experience at SCQF Level 9 as a minimum (for example, a BA/Ordinary Degree, Graduate Diploma or SVQ at SCQF Level 9) in finance, business, banking, accountancy, law or economics
  • Self-motivation (with a proven ability to work solo and as part of a team)
  • Good numeracy and analytical skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Good IT skills, particularly in Excel, MS Teams and similar

What we offer

If successful, you'll gain access to the following benefits:

  • Membership of the Scottish Enterprise Pension and Life Assurance Scheme – a pension based on your final pensionable salary, flexible retirement options and generous life assurance cover
  • Up to 43 annual leave days a year (including public holidays), with the opportunity to buy additional holidays
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • A health cash plan
  • Our Employee Retail Benefits Scheme
  • Our Employee Assistance Scheme
