The opportunity

This is your chance to join Scottish Enterprise’s Graduate Development Programme and deliver in a role that makes a real difference to Scotland’s economy. Our High Growth Company Creation team looks to capitalise on Scotland’s world-class research base by supporting its commercialisation. This means you’ll be working closely with many of Scotland’s universities, research institutes and NHS boards to help form high-growth companies that’ll have a significant impact on our economy in the future.

The role

As a Graduate Programme Manager, you’ll help identify projects stemming from Scotland’s research base and develop these into companies with the potential to scale. You’ll be bringing disruptive technologies to the market, raising significant investment and helping to achieve high growth in international markets. This is an exciting opportunity to understand the commercialisation process and the business landscape in Scotland, as you work with world-class researchers to find ways of applying new technologies to real-world problems. You’ll also build relationships with leading Scottish stakeholders, including top universities and support organisations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting relationship managers in three main regions as they identify projects with significant growth potential and scalable ambitions
  • Supporting the delivery of Opportunity Qualification Project approvals by collating information and liaising with specialist teams across Scottish Enterprise
  • Quantitative and qualitative portfolio analysis – particularly project and portfolio performance in investment, follow-on funding, growth, and employment figures
  • Helping the team shape and deliver marketing activity, representing them externally, and building collateral to support the annual marketing plan
  • Building relationships and engaging with internal and external customers and colleagues to promote and benefit the portfolio
  • Helping to redevelop application collateral by understanding the customer journey and suggesting and implementing improvements
  • Developing a deep knowledge and understanding of the organisation and its operations both by learning on the job and through continuous support

Who we're looking for

You’ll join us with a degree or equivalent in one of Scottish Enterprise’s key sectors – preferably green energy, life science, industrial biotechnology, fintech, quantum and photonics, data and digital or space. You’ll also have:

  • Self-motivation, plus a proven ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Good numeracy and analytical skills
  • An ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Good IT skills (with knowledge of systems such as Excel and MS Teams)

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Experience of the university commercialisation process

What we offer

If successful, you'll gain access to the following benefits:

  • Membership of the Scottish Enterprise Pension and Life Assurance Scheme – a pension based on your final pensionable salary, flexible retirement options and generous life assurance cover
  • Up to 43 annual leave days a year (including public holidays), with the opportunity to buy additional holidays
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • A health cash plan
  • Our Employee Retail Benefits Scheme
  • Our Employee Assistance Scheme
