Unlocking Scotland's export potential

The Export Champions programme is a business-to-business export mentorship scheme that provides newer exporting companies with mentorship support from experienced, successful exporting companies.

Experience tell us, companies that trade internationally tend to be more innovative, more productive and more competitive. Also, businesses and economies that operate across a range of markets tend to be more resilient and less vulnerable to economic shocks.

Supporting more of Scotland’s companies to internationalise is critical to a sustainable economic future. That's why we’re working in partnership with the Scottish Government to help unlock Scotland’s export potential.

Mobilising networks

Growing Scottish exports is critical to boosting productivity across Scotland. Businesses can’t achieve that alone. We're here to support companies across Scotland to make the most of international market opportunities.

We plan to mobilise our networks, including GlobalScot, to help deliver 300 business-to-business mentorships over the next three years to increase awareness of the benefits of exporting and help ramp-up overseas activity.

Helping new exporters learn from experienced ones

We're inviting you to consider participating in our Export Champions programme either as a champion or mentee, according to your business needs and your exporting experience.

These measures are part of a package backed by £20 million investment announced as part of the Programme for Government, unveiled in November 2018 by First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

They come as the latest statistics show the value of Scottish exports is worth an estimated *£32.4 billion, up 6.2% year on year.
